There’d been rumours of a shop facility within Facebook for a while now. I’d read that soon there would be the ability for businesses who sell items or services to be able to sell directly through their Facebook page. When I opened up the paintfor.me Facebook page today, hey presto, there was this shining new option to implement a Shop Now button. My delight turned to slight disappointment though.
We have had people asking on Facebook how they can commission a painting, so the option to simply click a button is good; however, I guess I had envisaged some sort of shopping-cart scenario with a ‘shop now’ button under certain posts, allowing our customers to buy whatever image was within that post directly within Facebook rather than going to an external site. However, this ‘Shop Now’ button leads to a link you tell it to go to; in this case, I chose our Pick an Artist page.
So, while it makes things a little easier now that there is a direct link within our Facebook page to the purchasing section of the www.paintfor.me website, I’m still hoping for a more fully-integrated shop within Facebook business pages.
